Study – Impact of the Japet.W exoskeleton on intradiscal pressure

Result of the study conducted by Japet on the impact of the Japet.W exoskeleton on intradiscal pressure within the area of the lumbar spine.

Context

In order to assess the exoskeleton’s impact on the lumbar pressure, intradiscal pressure measurements are collected, on an inert subject set up with the device.

Method

A pressure sensor was placed in the area of the lumbar intervertebral discs, allowing a continuous measurement of the intradiscal pressure. The recording was started with the exoskeleton turned off. After a few seconds, the exoskeleton was turned on, then turned off again after 2 minutes of acquisition.

Pressure sensors

Results

Numerical and cadaveric studies have shown a decrease in the intradiscal pressure by applying a traction force through the exoskeleton.

We can conclude from this study that wearing the Japet.W exoskeleton makes it possible to reduce the intradiscal pressure in the lumbar discs by up to 40% compared to its initial pressure.
